Long Eaton United A 4 v 3 West Hallam Vipers 17/04/2008

Starting Line-Up:
Nathan (Goal Keeper)
George & Ashley (Defence)
Ben (Centre midfield)
Leon (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Owen, Finley & Henry (Subs)

When these two teams met earlier in the season at West Hallam, Long Eaton took the points but it was a tough game against a physical team. Long Eaton was expecting an easier game this time round at their home ground.

Long Eaton attacked straight from the whistle and Euan was unlucky when his reflex shot went just round the post. The early signs were good for Long Eaton.

With Long Eaton unable to get the early goal, the West Hallam Vipers started to get their game going, playing direct football and on nine minutes opened the scoring when Long Eaton failed to clear.

Long Eaton’s Manager told the boys to get their heads up and urged on by their supporters, three minutes later, Euan equalised with an angled half volley.

Euans goal appeared to settle the team and four minutes later Euan got his second.

The game continued to be a hard fought affair with Long Eaton playing the better attacking football but West Hallam was matching them in effort. Three minutes before the break, with Long Eaton unable to turn their possession into goals, West Hallam got the equaliser.

Half time score 2 v 2.

The second half started with the Long Eaton team fired up and three minutes in Samuel gave Long Eaton the lead, only then to see it cancelled out a minute later by a floated in ball that deceived Nathan in the Long Eaton goal.

Long Eaton continued to apply the pressure and on fourteen minutes, Euan and Samuel both chased a through ball which the West Hallam defense did not deal with and presented Euan with a simple tap in for his hat-trick.

The game continued to be hard fought to the final whistle with no further goals but plenty of action.

Final Score 4 v 3.

In summary, the boys did well against a tough, hard working West Hallam team. It was not pretty but at this stage in the season it is the points that count. Long Eaton would like to thank West Hallam and their supporters and wish them all the best for the future.

his was an important match for both teams, Long Eaton looking to keep hold of the second spot position and Netherfield looking to take it from them.

The game kicked off with the Long Eaton boys taking the game to Netherfield, matching them in the tackles and creating opportunities. Unfortunately, Long Eaton was unable to turn the opportunities into goals.

Netherfield was unable to create any real chances, relying mainly on chances being created by long kicks from their keeper which the Long Eaton midfield and defense dealt with quite comfortably.

Long Eaton went into half time the happy team with the Netherfield team looking a bit subdued.

Half time score 0 v 0.

The Long Eaton team started the second half in a positive mood but with just a minute gone, Long Eaton scored an unfortunate own goal that was followed six minutes later by another.

Encouraged by their supporters, the boys kept going and three minutes later Leon blasted in from close range to give the boys a chance. The team was playing some great football but Netherfield were defending really well sensing victory.

The game continued to the final whistle with no further goals but plenty of action.

Final Score 1 v 2.

In summary, a game Long Eaton did not deserve to loose. A Netherfield supporter summed the game up when he said, “The better team lost today”. Keep your heads boys, you played really well. Long Eaton would like to thank Netherfield and their supporters.

Long Eaton United A 2 v 2 Attenborough Colts Blue 6/04/2008

Starting Line-Up: sg102651.jpg

George & Ashley (Defence)
Ben (Centre midfield)
Owen (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Finley & Henry (Subs)

As with the previous match against Aslockton, this was going to be another interesting fixture between two teams near the top of the table. The first meeting between these two sides ended in hard fought nil nil draw.

The Long Eaton Managers pre-match talk to the players was to put pressure on the Attenborough team right from the whistle like they did against Aslockton. Unfortunately, it was Attenborough who produced the early pressure and on four minutes they took the lead with a well directed shot when Long Eaton failed to clear their lines.

sg102671.jpgAttenborough continued to apply the pressure with Long Eaton struggling to get their game going. Midway through the half, Long Eaton did start to play some better football and on sixteen minutes Samuel worked his way in from the side of the box and found Euan who slotted in from close range.

Attenborough did not let the goal affect them and just a minute later regained the lead. The ten minutes leading up to the break saw the Long Eaton team battling back into the game and getting into their stride.

Half time score 1 v 2.

The Long Eaton team started the second half with a more determined attitude following the team talk from the manager and it was Attenborough who were caught on the back foot.

Four minutes in, Owen close to the halfway line threaded the ball through to Samuel, who raced towards the box and drove a low hard shot in to the bottom of the net to bring the score level.

Three minutes later, Ben was unlucky not to score when he picked up a ball in the middle of the Attenborough half and unleashed a shot that rattled the bar. As the second half unfolded, it was Long Eaton who was playing the better football but Attenborough always looked dangerous when they broke. The game continued to the final whistle with no further goals but plenty of action.

Final Score 2 v 2.

In summary, overall a draw was probably a fair result, with Attenborough shading the play in the first half and Long Eaton in the second half. Although, the longer the game went on, it was Long Eaton who looked the more likely team to win it.

Long Eaton would like to thank both sets of supporters for their tremendous support and wish Attenborough all the best for the remainder of the season.

Aslockton C Blue 2 v 5 Long Eaton United A 30/03/2008
teamu10.jpgStarting Line-Up:
Nathan (Goal Keeper)
George & Ashley (Defence)
Ben (Centre midfield)
Leon (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Owen, Finley & Harvey (Subs)

It was a bright and breezy morning for the away match at Aslockton. With both teams near the top of the table on 36 points from 16 games played, Long Eaton was looking to do the double over Aslockton and they would be seeking revenge for the defeat earlier in the season in what was a closely fought match.

The Long Eaton Manager fired the team up before kick-off and the players responded with a real positive start, taking the game to Aslockton who appeared to es1.jpgbe caught napping. On 3 minutes, Euan gave Long Eaton just the start the Manager had asked for, an early goal, reacting quickly to a loose ball in the box to give Long Eaton the lead.

The Long Eaton team continued to play confident football in all departments with some great passing moves. It was midway through the half when Aslockton finally got their game together, with some good, neat football but was unable to apply the finish. By half time, both teams was battling and playing some attractive football, passing the ball around quite effectively but Long Eaton were certainly looking the stronger side.

Half time score 0 v 1.

Long Eaton started the second half just like the first, positive and confident and with 2 minutes in saw Eaun score a cracking goal from a whipped in corner by Samuel. Samuel got on the score sheet with a goal a minute later to make it three. Aslockton got a goal back 2 minutes later when a well delivered corner went in off the back of a Long Eaton head.

anl.jpgThree minutes later Long Eaton were gifted a goal, curtesy of an Aslockton own goal and 3 minutes later Samuel scored his second to make it 5-1. Aslockton scored a bizarre goal seven minutes from the end. Nathan in the Long Eaton goal, went to kick the ball out of his hands just as an Aslockton player had turned his back to return up field, the ball rebounded off his back and into the net. They all count!

Final Score 2 v 5.

In summary, a well deserved win for the Long Eaton boys from a game between two capable teams, who both deserve to be at the top end of the table. The Long Eaton boys produced a strong, positive and confident team performance right from the first whistle. Keep up with the positive starts boys!

Long Eaton would like to thank both sets of supporters for their tremendous support.
