Cotgrave Colts v Long Eaton United U7 |
Long Eaton Under 7s win convincingly Vs Cotgrave Colts away – Sat 23 Feb 08
Starting line up; Max, Lily, Matthew, Jack, Oscar, Jarrett (Captain), Sam
A long way to go but it was worth it! Within 2 minutes Sam was on form again with a cracking shot to be parried away by the keeper for Oscar to nip in and slot it in 1-0 Long Eaton (you were missed last week Oscar). Despite going ahead, it took the team a while to settle down.
Thanks to Lily and Sam clearing from 2 consecutive corners we denied Cotgrave going level. For the next few minutes Long Eaton found themselves on the back-foot, but again Sam was there to stop them, what a consistent player. His work-rate gets better every week! On the 9th minute, Matthew crossed from the right to find Oscar who didn’t waste any time with a beautiful right foot first time to steer the ball into the roof of the net, that was precise and meant, well done Oscar! 2-0 Long Eaton.
On the 11th minute Long Eaton again found themselves defending from a good break from Cotgrave, this time to be denied by Jack (what a brave centre back). Next it was our turn with a brilliant move with some excellent passing to earn us a corner which Sam delivered to perfection to find Matthew for the third, 3-0 Long Eaton. We were on a roll now and within a minute Sam appeared from nowhere with a shot that unfortunately found the stands.
On 14 minutes Sam found some space on the left-wing but this time he shot himself and found the net from an unbelievable angle to put us 4-0 up, fantastic! (Kenny Miller would have been proud of that one Sam). On the 16th minute Jarrett (no fear) Hobday put in a crunching tackle outside the 18 yard box to win us a corner, delivered by Sam for Jack to put away after a goal-mouth scramble. 5-0 Long Eaton. Just to round off a fantastic performance, in the last minute Jarrett crossed the ball to Matthew who shot once and saved and them picked up the rebound to fire a thunderbolt into the roof of the net to make it 6.
Great result away, 6-0 Long Eaton.
Second game
Starting line up Max, Lee, Zak, Sean, Matthew K, Matthew W, Matthew S (Captain)
Good start on the second game with the team full steam ahead, it was clear from the whistle that they meant business. On 4 minutes Matthew S displayed some excellent skills and footwork to deceive Cotgrave when we were under pressure (have you been watching Ronaldo Matthew?). It wasn’t until the 6th minute that Lee (what an improvement he’s made this season) started to show what he’s made of, the ball appears to stick to his foot...excellent ball control.
On 7 minutes Lee got onto the ball from Matthew K with only the keeper to beat to slot it home, brilliant skill to go around the keeper, 1-0 Long Eaton. Nice one Lee! Long Eaton kept up the pressure with some excellent passing and movement to find Sean for a cracking shot, just wide.
On 10 minutes Matthew W off for Hannah and she was straight in with a good stop to break-down a Cotgrave attack. The pressures on and again Sean appeared to shoot, just wide, 2nd shot just wide in as many minutes. On 11 minutes on came Will for Matthew K and again he was straight in to produce a great tackle to deny Cotgrave...both subs were fired up right from the off, nice to see!
The next few minutes saw Zak battling in midfield to feed the forwards with some lovely passes and well taken corners. Likewise, some impressive work from Hannah in the middle to help stop their attacks, well done Hannah. On the 18th minute Lee beat 3 Cotgrave players impressively (ball sticking to his foot again) and set Sean up for another great shot on target but well saved from the Cotgrave keeper.
Lee is making a habit of tight control to go past their defenders, again by beating 3 and shooting just wide right, unlucky. Just to round-off a brilliant team performance Matthew W again found Lee with an accurate pass to his feet, in turn Lee turned inside the left back and shot with his left just inside the post, very clever, the keeper was left standing. 2-0 Long Eaton, well done Lee…best game yet! There were 2 other mix and match games played.
The third game 0-0 and the 4th game 4-0 Long Eaton with goals from Jarrett (hat-trick) and Oscar. All-in-all a brilliant performance from all to win 12-0 on aggregate.
Well done.

Toton FC U9 v Long Eaton United u9 Blue CUP SEMI FINAL 23/02/08 |
Team met up early at Toton corner for warm up & tactical discussions, for what looks like the biggest match these lads have ever played in As everyone can appreciate, to get to a cup final in any standard of football takes some doing and we are one game away from it today!
The game got underway with Long Eaton starting with probably their strongest line up and were soon causing Toton problems. To be the fair, they had a bit of a breeze behind them which was always going to help. Jacko was making telling runs and he was weaving his magic on the unfortunate full back, and putting crosses in. Stephen was staying disciplined in midfield, as they had a couple of really quick lads, so we had to watch for break outs.
Bradley was playing as target man agoin, and holding ball well. Then Jacko got the ball again, evade a couple of tackles and smashed the ball into the top of the goal, great goal! 0-1 to Long Eaton. Toton now started to push on more, with Sam and Matthew holding firm and Liam and Jacko were also tracking back to slow their pacey guys up. With us holding firm down the middle of the park we were always going to cause them problems, suddenly Jacko was away again, cracked in a shot that broke free for Stephen to stab home!. 0-2 to Long Eaton.
Long Eaton looked well in control, as Tim started rolling on and off the subs to give all lads a game, Ben was working the right side, Joe coming into midfield, William working the left side. Toton still trying hard, and some well timed tackles and good goalkeeping were keeping us in it. It stayed like this till half time
Half Time 0-2 to Long Eaton
Second half started with Toton pushing hard suddenly scramble in our goal and it was in! 1-2 to Long Eaton Match was now getting tougher as this goal really lifted Toton..More players were rolled on and off. Then there was an unfortunate handball in our area caused by stopping ball going in and Toton put it away nicely. 2-2 Now it was a game! Then Stephen brought down in their area in last minute! Jacko put ball down to take, bang, it went wide!! Then whistle went. Extra time again!
Long Eaton picked their heads up and went for it. Corner to Long Eaton Jacko floats it in and their he is, Bradley, extra time specialist, Crack, great volley! 3-2 to Long Eaton Then we played out second half after a couple of good saves from Lewis, who also had a solid game, looking very assertive. Final whistle!! 3-2 to Long Eaton Great game for Long Eaton and commiserations to Toton FC who tried very hard
FINAL SCORE: 2-3 to Long Eaton United WELL DONE LADS!! MOM: ALL OF THEM

Wilford Mavericks v Long Eaton United A 17/02/2008 |
Wilford Mavericks 1 v 1 Long Eaton United A
Starting Line-Up:
Nathan (Goal Keeper)
George & Ashley (Defence)
Ben (Centre midfield)
Owen (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Leon, Finley & Harvey (Subs)
It was a frosty morning for the away fixture against the Wilford Mavericks.
The first half saw both teams working hard and competing fairly. Neither team was able to dominate but arguably Long Eaton was playing the better quality football.
On 16 minutes, Wilford almost took the lead when a powerful shot rebounded back off the far post. Just a minute later, Wilford attacked again and when Long Eaton failed to clear, this time they saw their shot go in off the far post to give them the lead.
As seen before this season, the Long Eaton team responded by stepping up a gear and on 19 minutes equalised when Ben scored with an angled shot from distance.
Half time score 1 v 1. T
he second half saw plenty of effort with neither team able to get the winning goal.
Final Score 1 v 1.
In summary, a clean, fair game which Long Eaton should have won. Both teams created chances which should have resulted in more goals. The Long Eaton team played well in all departments, especially in defense. Both goal keepers did well in the difficult conditions of the goal mouths. The game also saw debuts from the two new Long Eaton players. The support for both teams was tremendous and Long Eaton wishes the Wilford Mavericks all the best for the remainder of the season.

Long Eaton United u9 Blue v Clifton AW White u9 16/02/08 |
On a cold and frosty morning, there was a pitch inspection. After a bit of umming and ahhing it was decided fit to play. On paper, this looked like it should be an easier match than last week! Last weeks game had been a tough match with Long Eaton A, which we lost by a solitary goal.
The match got under way on time and immediately Long Eaton were all over Clifton, it wasn’t long before Bradley had cracked a goal in 1-0 to Long Eaton. With the start we had made, Tim started to roll on and off players so all lads got a fair game. Clifton, to their credit, really kept battling and it stayed at 1-0 till half time.
Half Time: 1-0 to Long Eaton
Second half started ok for Long Eaton with Lewis getting a few touches and Matthew holding back line firm. We got another break and it was Stephen slotting ball away. 2-0 to Long Eaton. While Clifton lads were trying hard, Long Eaton were actually coasting, and it wasn’t long before Jacko put another away. 3-0 to Long Eaton. There should have been a few more goals, but it didn’t really matter. After a workman like display,it has helped keep our battle against relegation on track.
Final Score: 3-0 to Long Eaton MOM Liam
