Footballers of the Future!
feb-08-presentation-waterproof-training-gear.jpg

Young people from two Long Eaton United FC Under 7 squads were presented with their new waterproof training tops on Sunday 3rd February at the Village Hotel, Chilwell.

The youngsters, all local children, have been doing so well in recent friendly matches that two companies, Ecolab Ltd and Village Hotels, sponsored the purchase of the new clothes to help keep them warm and dry during their training sessions and on match days!

The boys and girls play on Saturday mornings, and train on Tuesday evenings at Long Eaton United FC. If any local Under 7’s are interested in trying out for the teams or any business’s would like to support financially with further sponsorship, please get in touch via the youth section of the club website

Long Eaton United u9 Blue v West Bridgford U9 Spiders 02/02/08
Another difficult game in prospect with one of the highflying teams in Division 1 after the disappointment last week against Carlton We had full squad available, though, which has not happened for a few weeks due to illness so we were pretty confident. After two pitch inspections, it was decided match could start

Game got started on a slightly hard surface due to snow and freezing temperatures, and ball was skidding around to start with, but all the lads started to apply themselves well. Liam & Jacko were getting breaks down the flanks, and Bradley was holding ball well. Stephen was bossing midfield, and holding well. Same just behind him was making some good passes, and no one was beating Matthew. When the ball got to Lewis, his kicking was excellent, getting real distance today.

Bridgford, though, had some strong players, who we needed to be aware of. With Stephen keeping a grip of his duties in the middle of the park, they had little opportunity to take any command. Well done Stephen. Then, big kick from Lewis beat their back line and Bradley swooped on the ball, round the keeper, 1-0 . Excellent Finish Bradley! Jacko was making some telling runs and good crosses. Liam was also having good game tackling back and making good runs down right flank After some great linking up with our passing game with Sam, Stephen, Bradley, the ball broke away to Jacko outside the box, who’s superbly struck left foot shot crashed into the top of their goal, 2-0 to Long Eaton!

Half Time : 2-0 to Long Eaton

Once again, we started second half in a daze, might have to stop the oranges! Bridgford came out all guns firing as they put all our lads on the back foot. With Matthew and Sam working hard to keep them out.Now all the Long Eaton managers were shouting their orders, lads looked a bit bemused. Then one of the strong Bridgford lads crashed through about three sets of our tackles and blasted it into net. Now 2-1 to Long Eaton. This seemed to wake Long Eaton up, and now we started to get a grip again in the midfield, our long throws were also causing problems, now we had fresh legs with William , Ben, and Joe coming on. We had a few more chances with William and Ben going close. In fact, one chance, I think it was harder to miss than score! Joe had a couple of shots, solidly hit , but off target. We held on till the end to get a good victory

Full Time : 2-1 to Long Eaton MOM: Sam

Long Eaton United A 7 v 0 West Hallam Wanders 13/01/2008

Long Eaton United A 7 v 0 West Hallam Wanders

Starting Line-Up:

Nathan (Goal Keeper)
George & Ben (Defence)
Owen (Centre midfield)
Leon (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Ashley (Sub)

It was a damp, breezy morning for Long Eaton’s second match of the New Year against a West Hallam team who had yet to win a game this season. The Long Eaton team attacked from the whistle and scored with less than a minute on the clock when a shot, not fully held by the goal keeper was poked home by Euan.

Long Eaton continued to attack freely with West Hallam putting the effort in but was second best to most of the tackles and challenges. On nine minutes, Owen scored his first of the game followed a minute later by his second with a thunderous shot from distance. Out of respect for the opposition and their travelling supporters, the goal celebrations by the Long Eaton players and supporters were reserved.
On 22 minutes, Leon scored to make it four and just before half time Samuel made it five.

Half time score 5 v 0.

The second half continued with Long Eaton dominating and two minutes in, Ben’s powerful shot was parried by the keeper with Samuel on hand to score his second. Two minutes later Ben did get on the score sheet to make it seven nil. West Hallam were unable to produce much in the way of attacking football with the Long Eaton defense dealing with any threat comfortably with Nathan in the Long Eaton goal a spectator for much of the game. The rest of the game saw Long Eaton coasting, going forward almost at will, creating chances which should have led to more goals but for a great second half display from the West Hallam Goal Keeper.

Final Score 7 v 0.

In summary, a game with little atmosphere that was mainly a one sided affair which the Long Eaton boys dominated.

Man of the match – George

Long Eaton United u9 Blue v Burton Joyce u9 CUP 19.01.08
Another tricky match, quarter finals of the cup.

Very sticky under foot with all the rain we have had, and playing a big side. Another stand in manager under pressure…… Well after about 5 minutes, with our lads looking asleep, they slotted one after just walking through our team. I think the lads then realised they were in a match! Burton Joyce kept putting pressure on, and this was making it difficult for Long Eaton to break out, with Bradley not getting many opportunities up front as there was little supply due to players getting sucked into dropping back to defend.

We seemed to forget how to play football; our best football comes when we pass the ball. We seemed to be holding them though, and Lewis, Joe, and skipper Sam seemed to get some understanding. This then seemed to start to generate some believe and Stephen, Jacko and Liam were starting to get some space to move with Burton pushing lads up field. It stayed at 0-1 to Burton till half time

Half Time 0-1 to Burton Joyce

Second half got underway, with Jacko moving into centre forward position and William going to left wing. We were now getting more and more into the game with Stephen and Sam running all over the field to try and make things happen. Joe was making some really solid tackles at back. Jacko was beating men and making crosses. Ben now on, making good tackles. We had numerous chances but to no avail, Suddenly Jacko turned inside a Burton lad and was caught. Penalty! Stephen stepped up and slotted it away. 1-1 Long Eaton were now on a charge and were getting chance after chance, Burton kept rotating lads but Long Eaton were now winning the midfield battle. Sam’s long throws were also causing chances to go begging.

Burton were also putting pressure on down the flanks but the mileage some of our lads were doing was incredible…up and down the full length of the pitch. Lewis was also making telling and brave saves. Great stuff! Long Eaton really believed they would get something out of this..then final whistle Full time 1-1 Extra time to be played!

This started with lots of little tired legs, but they all kept going…Joe and Sam with limps, Jacko with mud in his face, Stephen with lots of heart, William and Ben running all over Lewis still making save after save. Bradley back on looking refreshed….we were now outplaying them, but Burton never stopped. Then cross from Stephen in dying seconds of second half of extra time, met with a crashing right foot of Bradley and it was in! 2-1 to Long Eaton. Then final whistle blew as lads celebrated.

Final Score: 2-1 to Long Eaton Great cup tie and well done to all boys from both teams MOM Joe

Long Eaton United A v Clifton AW Blue 06/01/2008

6th January, 2008 Long Eaton United A 1 v 2 Clifton AW Blue

Starting Line-Up:
Nathan (Goal Keeper)
George & Ashley (Defence)
Ben (Centre midfield)
Owen (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Leon (Sub)

It was a cold and frosty morning for Long Eaton first match of the New Year against a Clifton team who had won all of their games so far this season. Long Eaton opened the game positively, immediately attacking with Samuel unlucky not to get his shot on target.

Both teams played constructive, positive football without creating too many clear-cut chances. The opportunities that did come were either snap shots off target or the goal keepers and defenders dealt with competently. The game was even when Clifton made the breakthrough on eleven minutes when Long Eaton failed to clear. For the rest of the half, Long Eaton continued to apply pressure without being able to get the equaliser.

Half time score 0 v 1.

Following the half-time team talk from the manager, the second half started with Long Eaton taking the game to Clifton, urged on enthusiastically by their supporters. The Clifton team was starting to look uncomfortable and on ten minutes, following persistent pressure from the Long Eaton attack, Samuel capitalised on a defensive mistake that allowed him to score and bring the game level. T

he goal gave the Long Eaton players the belief they could go on and win this game, winning more of tackles and picking up the loose balls with Clifton looking second best. As the match entered the latter stages and with Long Eaton unable to get the decisive second goal, Clifton started to get themselves back into the game, urged on by their manager and supporters. With five minutes to go, the game appeared to be heading for a well deserved draw for both teams, when Clifton scored an unlikely winner.

Final Score 1 v 2.

In summary, a great match to watch between probably two of the best teams in the league. The Long Eaton boys should not feel too disappointed because they again proved they can compete with the best teams around.
