Wollaton Sports Pumas U9 v Long Eaton United U9 Blue 08/12/07 |
On a very wet and cold Saturday morning this was looking like a difficult match especially as we had lost to them the week before ,1-3 at home.
We were quite confident though, as we had played well previously with no luck in front of goal, I suppose we all know how ‘fickle’ strikers can be though! The pitch held up well with all the rain we were having, and was nice and flat for our ball players. We started playing some good football through the middle with Sam ,Stephen, Jacko and Bradley linking up well with some nice one touch football, with chances falling to Liam and Jacko early on.
Wollaton were also getting the odd break, but Matthew was solid at the back with Lewis looking really secure. Long Eaton were getting more confident as time went on, with Wollaton really having to work hard to stop breakthroughs. Their goalie was having to run off his line several times to break down runs on goal. Suddenly Bradley got through again, and drew goalie then slotted away chance, excellent finish! 0-1 to Long Eaton.
Wollaton pushed hard but Matthew was not going to be beaten with his pace telling all the time at the back, and pace of Sam also being able to cover anything that did come loose. Our pace right through the team was really telling as Wollaton struggled to beat any of our lads to the ball, with Jacko making some good crosses and chances went begging.Stephen doing an excellent man marking job on there danger man, not allowing him to make a mark on the game.
Half Time: 0-1 to Long Eaton
After a good ‘drying off’ at half time in warm changing rooms, with towels supplied by Wollaton ( Smashing consideration by Wollaton, Many Thanks!). We started playing again with chances falling to several lads as rain kept pouring down, subs came on, William, Joe and Ben. Ben was making solid tackles in mid field, we were now winning corners and Joe was driving them in, suddenly another cross came in, William ‘spun on a sixpence’ and drove ball in, nice goal! 0-2 to Long Eaton Long Eaton stayed solid even though they were now tiring, with Wollaton heads dropping the scored stayed 0-2 to the end.
Final Score; 0-2 to Long Eaton

Ex Forest Star Watches Under 7's Fight Back To Win 5 - 3 |
Dave Johnson (now Forest coaching staff) witnessed a dramatic fight-back by Long Eaton under 7s to win 5-3 away to Dunkirk.
Long Eaton was under-pressure right from the start with the ball rarely outside their own half. For the first 10 minutes Long Eaton appeared to be half-asleep and for the rest of the first-half it didn’t improve much! “What’s going on,” were the chants from the coaching staff, “this isn’t what we’ve been doing in training!” It wasn’t surprising that despite a good block from Max on 5 minutes that we went 1 down.
After some clear instructions from the sidelines, Long Eaton started to realise what was happening and needed to take their pyjamas off if they were to stand a chance. The first positive sign came from Sam with a great cross to find Oscar who managed to win a corner. The corner from Sam was perfect and eventually fell to Jarrett on the edge of the box who found the net with a terrific strike to level the score 1-1 (“Have you been watching Torres Jarrett?”). Within minutes Dunkirk made several breakthroughs only to be stopped by Lily, Jack and Max.
For the next 5 minutes most of the action was in the middle of the park with Jack playing his best game so far; he battled non-stop to get the upper-hand for Long Eaton, “brilliant Jack.” It wasn’t until the 18th minute that Long Eaton started to pass the ball about. Unfortunately for them they went 2-1 down just before the break. It would have been at least 2 more if it wasn’t for the efforts of Lily, Jack and Max again.

Gedling Town Red 1 v 5 Long Eaton United U10 A's - 2/12/2007 |
Starting Line-Up:
Nathan (Goal Keeper)
George & Ashley (Defence)
Ben (Centre midfield)
Leon (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Ethan & Owen (Subs)
It was a cold, wet and blustery morning for the Long Eaton squad and supporters travelling to Gedling.
The pre-match talk from the Long Eaton manager was all about the team showing determination right from the start and when the match kicked off it was apparent the boys had taken this on board.
Long Eaton was soon passing the ball around confidently, making chances and on eight minutes Samuel was on target to score the opening goal. The rest of the half continued with more good play from the Long Eaton team and were unlucky not to increase their one goal lead.
Half time score 1 v 0.
The second half continued where the first left off with Long Eaton dominating and Gedling chasing the game. Five minutes in and Long Eaton got their second with a well worked goal from Leon. Two minutes later Ethan was in the right place at the right time to make it three. Gedling worked hard and two minutes later got their reward by pulling a goal back. Long Eaton kept their passing game going and in doing so created more chances, with Samuel and Leon both scoring again before the end. Final Score 1 v 5.
In summary, a game that Long Eaton dominated right from the start with Gedling always chasing the game. Nathan continued with his confident form, George and Ashley worked well again in defense, both players making significant contributions when switching defense into attack. Ben was solid in the middle linking up well with the defense, wingers and strikers. Samuel was full of trickery on the wing which Gedling found difficult to deal with. Leon again showed his versatility on the wings and in attack, Owen played with grit and determination and made some superb passes. Strikers Euan and Ethan made it difficult for the Gedling defense, battling well and keeping busy. Many thanks to Gedling’s team manager and supporters who made Long Eaton feel very welcome.
