Long Eaton United Youth

Clifton All Whites U9 v Long Eaton United U9 Blue - 24/11/07
On a bitterly cold day, it was a job keeping the lads warm as the wind blew straight across the field! Team was same as last week, with Tim the manager having to have time off, everyone was wondering what the ‘assistant’ manager might do! With his new ‘coach’ and one sub!

After a few discussions, the formation stayed the same, and after the ‘assistant’ had had a chat with his skipper, Lewis, it was decided to kick with the wind behind us if we won the toss. The tactic here was if we could get some early goals, it might demoralise the opposition. Well, we won the toss, ball played straight to Jacko on the wing, crossed it over, Bradley one touch, smack! Back of the net. 0-1 to Long Eaton inside 11 seconds!! Great start, just to plan! This really picked the lads up, and with it being a nice wide pitch, it really allowed our lads to move ball well. Some nice interplay from Jacko and Sam allowed Stephen to break through, crack! Back of the net. 0-2 to Long Eaton…this goal was after about 10 minutes, and now Long Eaton crowd were stunned into silence and disbelief, but not the ‘assistant’ and his ’coach’ as they kept barking instructions to the lads.

Long Eaton United U9 Blue v West Bridgford Spiders U9 CUP Match 17/11/0
Another tough game in store, same team selected as last week and we had just lost to this outfit two weeks ago. Pitch had a lot of long grass on one side, which wouldn’t help our little wingers, as ball would hold up in this grass.

Things started off well for us, using the same formation as last week we were at West Bridgford early on with there goal keeper soon in action. We were really looking strong with again Sam and Stephen being strong in midfield with Matthew looking secure at the back.

Bradley was really starting to look like he now has a bit of belief in his ability, holding ball nicely with his back towards their goal, this takes a fair bit of skill, as he waited to lay ball off to either Jacko on the left or Joe on the right. it wasn’t long before he drew defenders away to allow Stephen to run through and slot the ball home, nice goal! 1-0 to Long Eaton. Corners were also causing Bridgford some concern, as we had been practising. One ball broke out from a corner, and Sam teed it up and cracked it just pass the top corner, Wow! Sam nearly scored, I think he may have meant to miss it as he has been promised a kiss from our Raffle Manager, Carolyn, if he ever scores!!

Bridgford did put some good attacks but Jacko & Joe were working hard tracking back, and putting in good tackles which stopped a lot of passes getting through. Anyhing that did get through Matthew was defending well and Lewis was very confident between the sticks.

Half Time: 1-0 to Long Eaton

Second half started much like first, but Bridgford were working hard, bringing there sub on and they were getting chances, Lewis was making several timely saves. With Bridgford pushing on, we got a good break and moved it up field with great skill, for Bradley to break and wait for goalie to commit himself before putting it nicely away. 2-0 to Long Eaton. Tim brought subs on Ben, Liam & William. but Liam wasn’t feeling too good, so he came back off and Jacko went back on. We then had to knuckle down and toughen up, which we did well and match ended up 2-0 to Long Eaton, Well done lads, excellent display, with good spirit and telling tackles

Full Time: 2-0 to Long Eaton

Man of the Match  Joe

Long Eaton United U9 A v Long Eaton United U9 Blue - 10/11/07
This looked a tricky game for both sides, and Blues started off with slightly diffent formation with Sam pushing up more to stiffen midfield. This really looked good to start with, as Matthew was covering back well and Sam and Stephen making up the extra man in defence when needed. Only snag with this tactic is that the boys had to work really hard.

Jacko was playing well down his flank and Bradley down the middle, with Joe moving well and putting passes into dangerous places. The A’s though were very strong in all departments, with their rotation policy working well with fresh legs constantly coming on. Chances were falling to the Blues, but as in other games, we just cannot put them away.

Then the A’s got a good break down their right flank and a good cross was met with nice control and it was slotted away nicely with Lewis having no chance. 0-1 to the A’s Blues kept trying, getting chances and tackling well but it stayed at this score till half time Half Time 0-1 to A’s

Second half started like first, plenty of good football from both sides, with Stephen and Sam winning lots of headers and 50-50 balls which in previous weeks wasn’t happening. We were winning corners and having chances from them, but all to no avail with the strong defence of the A’s holding firm.

Tim then brought fresh legs, Ben, William and Liam to try and make one more surge, but it wasn’t to be. Final Score 0-1 to Long Eaton United U9 A’s.

Well played boys. This was a match of really decent quality, and fitting for a Division 1 game, with good skills all over the park. Right from both keepers (Miles and Lewis) making some great saves to good movement and interplay from the strikers and midfielders. Good tackling & hard work from both defences. The league is really tight and with A’s making top spot and Blues being second from bottom, this match showed that there is hardly anything between them. At least in this match there was a bit more belief from the Blues, and they just need a bit of luck in front of goal to start moving up the league.

West Bridgford U9 v Long Eaton U9 Blue - 03/11/07

After a long lay off things looked promising for Long Eaton with some good interplay with Jacko and Ben up front with Joe getting involved from the start.

But we started to have problems when Bridgford were pushing up down each flank and it was from the right flank West Bridgford knocked the ball across and all Long Eaton lads were following the ball and not picking up several loose lads on the edge of the penalty area when it was knocked in 1-0 to West Bridgford.

Long Eaton still looked like they would get chances, and Steven ran through and with his left foot slotted in a great goal. 1-1. Stayed like this till half time

Tight second half, with Bridgford looking stronger and stronger, but Matthew ,Sam and Lewis repelling all attcks with good work from Stephen, Joe working hard and Jacko trying run after run. Tim then brought on subs to help, William, Liam and Bradley

Then a corner for Bridgford came across and hit one of there lads to bounce into net with only minutes left 2-1 to Bridgford It stayed like that to the end, really bad luck for Long Eaton, who did look a little rusty, not to get nothing from the game and made enough chances to win the game! Final Score 2-1 to West Bridgford MOM Joe
