Cotgrave Colts v Long Eaton Utd Under 15 29/0/2007 PDF Print E-mail

The man of the match was James for his 2 great goals

The Blues were visitors to newly promoted Cotgrave Colts & were quickly making a statement from the kick off. Cotgrave had plenty of possession in the 1st 15 minutes of the game. Long Eaton’s back four had their work cut out, but seemed to be coping.

The Blues managed to turn things around from a great individual run from Roberts, who, teed up to strike the ball in the back of the net. Cotgrave responded well going forward but met some stiff defence. A quick throw from the Blues keeper to Tormey on the right wing, skipping past several Cotgrave players was brought down in the 18- yard box. Dale calmly side footing the ball from the penalty spot for Long Eaton’s 2nd goal.

Again the Colts were putting pressure on & some good passing to their right-winger unmarked & a cracking strike at goal was saved by Connor Woolley. Eventually the colts scored with a well worked cross, controlled well & struck with power as the Blues keeper, diving & grasping thin air.

Long Eaton getting more possession & stemming the flow from Cotgrave scored a 3rd from a good spell of passing & James getting his second goal.

In the 2nd half Long Eaton were passing the ball with confidence & having good spells of possession. Midfield were controlling the game, backed up with a solid defence, who were pushing forward at any opportunity. Plenty of chances came & went but the Blues seemed to try too hard & were passing when they should have shot.

Simms in midfield, receiving the ball left of centre made space for himself to strike a cracking goal from 25 yards in the top left of the net. Cotgrave were having trouble getting out their own half. But managed to catch the Blues on the break a few times, which was dealt with well by the Blues defence.

Long Eaton’s 5th came from a strike by James, which was parried by Colt’s keeper only to be headed in at close range from Mcgoogan. A good result for Long Eaton, credit goes to Cross in defence & Danny on the wing.

The man of the match was James for his 2 great goals. Well-done Boys
