It was a fine, crisp morning for the home game against Aslockton Cranmers Blue.

The Long Eaton squad was feeling confident following last week's winning performance against a competent Calverton team. From the whistle it was clear Aslockton was a much organised team and they were not going to make it easy for Long Eaton.

Aslockton appeared to have come to defend, looking to break quickly through their extremely tricky striker. They reacted quickly whenever our forward players got the ball, crowding them out as soon as they were in possession and not allowing Long Eaton to produce many opportunities. The game was turning into a battle with both teams showing great determination. There was not much between the teams in the first half with both teams cancelling each other out with only a few chances on goal being created.

Half time score 0 v 0.
The second half continued with more hard fought football from both teams. As the game went on, Long Eaton started to show a bit more of their quality and seven minutes into the second half Sam almost burst the net with a powerful shot. Long Eaton were looking the better team at that point and you could easily of expected Long Eaton to take control of the game but Aslockton had other ideas, rather than let their heads go down, they raised their game and on nine minutes won themselves a corner. The corner was perfectly delivered and headed home with confidence from close range.

The game continued with more determined battling with very few chances being created, largely due to the quality of both defences, reading the game well and getting a foot in just when it mattered.

Two minutes from time and just when you thought the game was heading for a draw, Long Eaton threw caution to the wind, George from defence stepping up to deliver one of his monstrous throws that bounced just in front of goal with Leon reacting quickest to head past the keeper. The winning goal was met with a massive cheer from the Long Eaton supporters who had encouraged the team vigorously throughout the game.

Final Score 2 v 1.

In summary, ‘Not a game for the faint hearted’. This was probably one of Long Eaton toughest games to date with every player digging deep. The Long Eaton squad can be proud of their performance, continuing to match teams when having to battle to get results. Aslockton will consider themselves unlucky not to have come away with at least a point from a game that was fairly played and hard fought.
