Wollaton Sports Pumas U9 v Long Eaton United U9 Blue 08/12/07 PDF Print E-mail
On a very wet and cold Saturday morning this was looking like a difficult match especially as we had lost to them the week before ,1-3 at home.

We were quite confident though, as we had played well previously with no luck in front of goal, I suppose we all know how ‘fickle’ strikers can be though! The pitch held up well with all the rain we were having, and was nice and flat for our ball players. We started playing some good football through the middle with Sam ,Stephen, Jacko and Bradley linking up well with some nice one touch football, with chances falling to Liam and Jacko early on.

Wollaton were also getting the odd break, but Matthew was solid at the back with Lewis looking really secure. Long Eaton were getting more confident as time went on, with Wollaton really having to work hard to stop breakthroughs. Their goalie was having to run off his line several times to break down runs on goal. Suddenly Bradley got through again, and drew goalie then slotted away chance, excellent finish! 0-1 to Long Eaton.

Wollaton pushed hard but Matthew was not going to be beaten with his pace telling all the time at the back, and pace of Sam also being able to cover anything that did come loose. Our pace right through the team was really telling as Wollaton struggled to beat any of our lads to the ball, with Jacko making some good crosses and chances went begging.Stephen doing an excellent man marking job on there danger man, not allowing him to make a mark on the game.

Half Time: 0-1 to Long Eaton

After a good ‘drying off’ at half time in warm changing rooms, with towels supplied by Wollaton ( Smashing consideration by Wollaton, Many Thanks!). We started playing again with chances falling to several lads as rain kept pouring down, subs came on, William, Joe and Ben. Ben was making solid tackles in mid field, we were now winning corners and Joe was driving them in, suddenly another cross came in, William ‘spun on a sixpence’ and drove ball in, nice goal! 0-2 to Long Eaton Long Eaton stayed solid even though they were now tiring, with Wollaton heads dropping the scored stayed 0-2 to the end.

Final Score; 0-2 to Long Eaton
