It was a real winter’s day for the visit to West Hallam, with Long Eaton looking for a good performance following their three week break. Looking at the league positions, you would not have been surprised if Long Eaton had run away with this one against a team who were second from bottom. From the whistle it was clear that this was not going to be an easy game. West Hallam’s physical approach was preventing the Long Eaton team from getting their passing game going and Long Eaton struggled to match West Hallam’s aggressive play.
It was not too long before Long Eaton started to battle and match West Hallam’s physical play and on 12 minutes Long Eaton whipped the ball into the box and under extreme pressure Euan met the ball with a fantastic snap shot to score. The Long Eaton supporters hoped the goal would settle the team down and allow them take control but the game continued to be played in the same manner.
Half time score 0 v 1.
The second half continued to be physical and 5 minutes after the restart West Hallam scored from a well delivered corner, with the West Hallam players reacting quickest to level the game up. On 10 minutes came probably the highlight of the second half, when Ben played an accurate ball through to Samuel who set off for goal and with a powerful low struck shot, beat the West Hallam keeper from distance. This was a well deserved goal for a player who had received more than his fair share of rough challenges. The game continued to be physical until the final whistle.
Final Score 1 v 2.
In summary, Long Eaton deserved the win and showed how they can match any team when it comes to physical football although this is not the way they prefer to play. Nathan continued to be confident in goal. Ashley and George read the game well and made some crunching well timed tackles. Ben, Leon, Owen and Samuel battled hard in midfield with Euan and Ethan not having many chances but kept busy.
