George & Ashley (Defence)

The Long Eaton team and supporters travelled to Hucknall for this away fixture on what was a bitterly cold and windy morning. Long Eaton was looking to get back to winning ways following their cup exit the previous week.

The game kicked off with both teams working hard to deal with the difficult conditions. It wasn’t too long before Long Eaton started to get the ball into the danger area’s and were unlucky not to produce goals.

As the half went on and with Long Eaton unable to get the breakthrough, Hucknall was gaining confidence and encouraged by their supporters, created one or two chances of their own, which the Long Eaton backline dealt with quite comfortably.

With two minutes of the half remaining, Owen drove a shot in from distance which the goalkeeper dived to save, only then to see the ball squirm into the net.

Half time score 0 v 1.

As seen quite often this season, following a team talk from the manager, the second half started with a more determined Long Eaton side and three minutes from the restart saw Samuel score his first of the game. A minute later, Euan got on the score sheet with his first from close range.

Hucknall battled to get back into the match but just six minutes later saw Euan score his second with a typical strikers goal, latching on to a through ball from Ben, running clear of the defenders and placing the ball past the keeper.

At four goals down, you would have expected the Hucknall players heads to go down but they did not and as they had done all game, they kept trying to pass the ball and play attractive football.

The rest of the game saw both teams working hard in the difficult conditions and with a minute to go, Samuel scored his second to make it five.

Final Score 0 v 5.

In summary, a game that was played in a sporting manner which Long Eaton eventually won comfortably. The Long Eaton boys continue to play confident, positive football in all departments. All credit to the Hucknall team who played with real team spirit. Good luck to Hucknall Harriers for the rest of the season.
