Long Eaton Utd Under 14 girls reached the Notts Girls and Ladies League Cup Final this Sunday with a 4-1 victory at finalists for the past two years, Lincoln City.
Starting the game with a strong wind at their backs the Blues created a number of chances in the early stages before a well worked short corner between Charlotte and Holly enabled Charlotte to cast the ball powerfully into the top corner of the net on 10 minutes. Within 5 minutes Lincoln had levelled the score after the Blues failed to clear the ball. Long Eaton continued to keep the upper hand with Jena, Charlotte, Sophie, Hannah and Dainty battling hard to win the midfield. On 20 minutes the ball was played through to Emily on the edge of the box. Drifting into the area she shot across goal into the bottom corner to give the Blues back the lead. On the half hour Long Eaton broke away following Lincoln pressure. Emily and Emma chased a long ball down before Emily rounded the Keeper and smashed the ball home to give the Blues a 3-1 lead at half time.
The team knew that into the strong wind they needed to work hard to retain their advantage in the second half. However, Zoe, Jennifer and Holly at the back supported by brave goalkeeping from Paige rarely looked troubled. The Blues continued to battle hard and finished the game late in the second half when Jena outpaced the LIncoln defence before playing the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net.
This was a well-deserved victory from an all-round squad effort including substitutes Grace, Chloe and Jessica.
Come and see us in the Final on 4th May at West Bridgford against Ilkeston Town Ladies..
