Starting line up; Max, Jack (captain), Lilly, Matthew, Sam, Jarrett, Oscar
It normally takes our lot a few minutes to find their feet before they start performing…not this week! From the whistle they were on their toes, a good start. Within the first few minutes Long Eaton were piling the pressure on by closing down and winning 50/50 tackles to win 2 corners within the first few minutes.
The second one resulting in a shot from Oscar going just wide, we were buzzing. The next few minutes saw great efforts from Jarrett and an excellent well-timed break by Sam to find Oscar who slipped the ball to Jarrett who could quite catch it before it ran out. We only had to wait a few more minutes though, because on the 6th minute Jack unleashed a great shot that ended up in the path of Oscar to pick up his 20th of the season, he doesn’t miss those! 1-0 Long Eaton
Straight away Ernhale broke clear with a counter-attack only to be stopped by Jack. A bit of a set-back because within seconds Long Eaton won another corner delivered by Sam and finished by Matthew, great finish 2-0.
Almost straight away we were on the attack again, this time it resulted in an injury to our version of Wayne Rooney, come on Oscar run it off were the chants from the sidelines.
On 12 minutes another inch perfect cross from Sam, to find Jarrett to put it away. Well done Jarrett 3-0.
For the next few minutes Long Eaton found themselves defending with some excellent work from Lilly and Jack to prevent a come-back from Ernhale.
It didn't last too long because it was straight-back to the other end with Oscar trying to find a way through only to be knocked off the ball. No sympathy from the sidelines though as Kevin shouted, "I'll bring my camera next time Oscar".
The next 5 minutes were quite eventful with some good passing and shooting from Sam, Oscar and Matthew and equally some brave battling in the middle by Jack to win possession for his team. Max showed some good goalkeeping skills with a great roll-out and other goalkeeping efforts, he's obviously been watching Kuszczak! Just to finish off the half, Lilly put in some excellent tackles and Matthew ran off our second injury of the game. Good half.
The second half saw Jarrett go in goals for Max. Within minutes of the restart Max found Oscar who was chopped down by a frustrated centre-back. It didn't faze our team though because they upped-the-ante, delivering corner after corner with Matthew's Granddad, Steve, saying how professional they looked. Another corner soon after found Matthew who rattled the cross-bar with a screamer, it didn't stop there Max had a crack off the rebound, unlucky just wide. Next it was Sam's turn to shoot, this time Max did pick it up and turned it in for our 4th.
Oscar went into goal for Jarrett and straight away the pressure continued with Matthew's persistence paying off after he forced mistakes to nip in for another cracking individual effort 5-0, ‘Great energy Matthew'.
There was no stopping them now; Jarrett was having a great game. Likewise, Matthew was playing a blinder, best game he's had for a while. On 30 minutes Jarrett passed to Max and then to Matthew for his hat-trick, ‘Great celebration guys', 6-0.
Again the passing, movement and work-rate of Max (he played well outfield), Jarrett and Matthew ended up with the ball being driven into the roof of the net from Jarrett for his 2nd. 7-0 Long Eaton.
In the 38th minute Oscar came out to intercept a rare attack from Ernhale, ‘Well out Oscar, good keeping'.
What a performance from start to finish, there was even enough time to squeeze in one last one to make it 8-0 with a rocket from Max for his 2nd of the match. And literally in the last 10 seconds of the game, Lilly ran across the pitch (last player) to deny a final push from Ernhale. What does that say about a team when we're 8 up with seconds to go! Great result.
Scorers:
Oscar 1
