It was a bright and breezy morning for the away match at Aslockton. With both teams near the top of the table on 36 points from 16 games played, Long Eaton was looking to do the double over Aslockton and they would be seeking revenge for the defeat earlier in the season in what was a closely fought match.
The Long Eaton Manager fired the team up before kick-off and the players responded with a real positive start, taking the game to Aslockton who appeared to be caught napping. On 3 minutes, Euan gave Long Eaton just the start the Manager had asked for, an early goal, reacting quickly to a loose ball in the box to give Long Eaton the lead.
The Long Eaton team continued to play confident football in all departments with some great passing moves. It was midway through the half when Aslockton finally got their game together, with some good, neat football but was unable to apply the finish. By half time, both teams was battling and playing some attractive football, passing the ball around quite effectively but Long Eaton were certainly looking the stronger side.
Half time score 0 v 1.
Long Eaton started the second half just like the first, positive and confident and with 2 minutes in saw Eaun score a cracking goal from a whipped in corner by Samuel. Samuel got on the score sheet with a goal a minute later to make it three. Aslockton got a goal back 2 minutes later when a well delivered corner went in off the back of a Long Eaton head.
Three minutes later Long Eaton were gifted a goal, curtesy of an Aslockton own goal and 3 minutes later Samuel scored his second to make it 5-1. Aslockton scored a bizarre goal seven minutes from the end. Nathan in the Long Eaton goal, went to kick the ball out of his hands just as an Aslockton player had turned his back to return up field, the ball rebounded off his back and into the net. They all count!
Final Score 2 v 5.
In summary, a well deserved win for the Long Eaton boys from a game between two capable teams, who both deserve to be at the top end of the table. The Long Eaton boys produced a strong, positive and confident team performance right from the first whistle. Keep up with the positive starts boys!
Long Eaton would like to thank both sets of supporters for their tremendous support.
