Long Eaton United A 2 v 2 Attenborough Colts Blue 6/04/2008 PDF Print E-mail

Starting Line-Up: sg102651.jpg
Nathan (Goal Keeper)
George & Ashley (Defence)
Ben (Centre midfield)
Owen (Left Wing/midfield)
Samuel (Right Wing/midfield)
Euan (Striker)
Finley & Henry (Subs)

As with the previous match against Aslockton, this was going to be another interesting fixture between two teams near the top of the table. The first meeting between these two sides ended in hard fought nil nil draw.

The Long Eaton Managers pre-match talk to the players was to put pressure on the Attenborough team right from the whistle like they did against Aslockton. Unfortunately, it was Attenborough who produced the early pressure and on four minutes they took the lead with a well directed shot when Long Eaton failed to clear their lines.

sg102671.jpgAttenborough continued to apply the pressure with Long Eaton struggling to get their game going. Midway through the half, Long Eaton did start to play some better football and on sixteen minutes Samuel worked his way in from the side of the box and found Euan who slotted in from close range.

Attenborough did not let the goal affect them and just a minute later regained the lead. The ten minutes leading up to the break saw the Long Eaton team battling back into the game and getting into their stride.

Half time score 1 v 2.

The Long Eaton team started the second half with a more determined attitude following the team talk from the manager and it was Attenborough who were caught on the back foot.

Four minutes in, Owen close to the halfway line threaded the ball through to Samuel, who raced towards the box and drove a low hard shot in to the bottom of the net to bring the score level.

Three minutes later, Ben was unlucky not to score when he picked up a ball in the middle of the Attenborough half and unleashed a shot that rattled the bar. As the second half unfolded, it was Long Eaton who was playing the better football but Attenborough always looked dangerous when they broke. The game continued to the final whistle with no further goals but plenty of action.

Final Score 2 v 2.

In summary, overall a draw was probably a fair result, with Attenborough shading the play in the first half and Long Eaton in the second half. Although, the longer the game went on, it was Long Eaton who looked the more likely team to win it.

Long Eaton would like to thank both sets of supporters for their tremendous support and wish Attenborough all the best for the remainder of the season.
