Wednesday 20th August 2008 - Long Eaton v Pickering Town

Long Eaton v Pickering Town Long Eaton’s are set to play Pickering Town this weekend. Pickering who are currently on form and not losing a game so far this season will be coming to Long Eaton with all guns firing. Long Eaton seemed to have picked up their performance after losing to Parkgate, when they went out and beat Arnold in the FA Cup 2 – 1 with goals from Paul Gamble and Kelvin Mushambi.

The last 4 outings these two teams have produced 3 wins for Pickering and 1 draw, can Long Eaton turn their form around and get back on track for promotion. The last time Long Eaton beat Pickering was in 2005 when they won 1 – nil at home and again when they played Pickering at their home ground and won 2 – nil.

Monday 18th August 2008 - FA CUP Long Eaton v Arnold Town
Source Long Eaton United

After everyone shook hands as part of the FA's initiatve on respect the game started at a frantic pace.

Mabon showed up well early and was causing problems as was Arnold's Mitchell. Twice early on Mabon had half chances and after missing the target he then shot weakly at Broster. Michell had Whalin scrambling at the near post after a side foot shot but it went wide.

The first real chance fell to Steadman when after good work by Mabon, Murdock whipped a cross into the near post but failed to hit the target.

On 38 minutes Long Eaton took the lead. Steadman skillfully beat his marker and when he tried to pass Hudson he was brought down and earned the big center half a booking. From the resulting penalty, Gamble cooly slotted home giving Broster no chance.

Half time 0-1.

Monday 18th August 2008 - Long Eaton Reserves v Dronfield Town
Source Long Eaton United

If you have been to see the reserves this season you cannot complain about lack of entertainment. Free entry and 12 goals in two games is definitely value for money. Unfortunately the visitors have been scoring most of the goals.

After last Wednesdays disappointing 4-2 defeat by Melbourne Dynamo, Blues Reserves were beaten by the same score line on Saturday, this time by Dronfield Town.

The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes. From a free kick on the edge of the area the ball was played into space and three players ran into the box unmarked with the number 5 side footing past the keeper. Blues levelled 5 minutes later. A free kick on the right was pumped into the area by Richards, Wallace ran onto the ball and his powerful header beat the keeper.

On twenty minutes Dewhurst picked up the ball on the right and squared to Hallam who’s shot was just over the bar. On 27 minutes a cross from the left wing to the near post found the visitors no.10 who stabbed the ball past Graves to make it 2-1.

Wednesday 13th August 2008 - Long Eaton v Parkgate Match Report
Source Long Eaton United - Tony F

Blues: Whalin, Murdock, McGinty, Allsop, Whiley, Parker, Gamble, Wilkinson, Mabon, Steadman, Newton. Subs : North, Wheat, Musuambi.

Parkgate: Penn, Booker, Jones (Jamie) Furniss, Roberts, Cooper, Lopez, Holmes, Johnson, Heywood, Stocks. Subs: Jones (Andrew), Ramsey, Caint.

Blues made two changes from the side that won 3-0 against Maltby on Saturday. They brought in Parker for Hines at No.6 and Wilkinson for Holmes at No.8. Channon North was relegated to the subs bench with Ian Wheat and Kelvin Musuambi.

Long Eaton made a bright start winning two corner in the first few minutes. Then Mabon made room on the edge of the area but his shot was straight at the keeper.

On 13 minutes Parkgates won a free kick on the left but Stocks cross into box sailed over everyone and out for a goal kick. Six minutes later Parkgate won a throw on the right. From the throw Heywood took the ball to the line and pulled back a cross which eluded everyone and seemed to have run clear out on the left but the ball was picked up by Jamie Jones who fired in a spectacular shot into the top right hand corner. I doubt if we will see a better goal at Grange Park this season.

On the half hour Parkgate had a scare when a back pass almost beat the keeper and went out for a corner. Parkgate were playing the better football and won a corner on 38 minutes. The cross resulted in a glancing header which was cleared off the line by McGinty.

The visitors were on top at this stage and asking all the questions, from a free kick Furniss headed wide and two minutes later it was Furniss again whos shot was saved by Whalin.

HALF TIME: BLUES 0 PARKGATE 1
