Long Eaton Under 9’s (now under 10s) have had a season to proud of, out of 20 games losing 4 games and drawing 1 sailed them into runners up position in the YEL Sunday Division Red, which saw us have a fantastic day at Notts County for the YEL presentation.
The team have at times made it hard for themselves, but have battled through to the end. Last year saw the introduction of 4 new players into the side after the squad was split to make another new side, the Under 9’s Blue and the loss of 2 other players. We saw Euan, George, Owen and Jack join us. With Jack coming up from the Under 8’s.
Sadly, this season we have lost Jack to Nottingham Forest and will be missed by all, we all wish him well for the future, as the saying goes "The futures bright the futures 'The Reds'". I am sure we have not seen the last of Jack yet and hope to see him soon at the club.
On a brighter note we have signed a new player, Leon who is a strong player and is also able to play in most positions and should be a strong asset to the team.
This being the last season at 7 a-side we will be looking to recruit new players for next season, this may seem a while off yet, but time does not stand still and with the leap to full 11 a-side, it will not be an easy task learning new rules, such as offside. Hopefully in the coming months we will start arranging friendlies to get used to a whole new game.
As for this season, at present, we are waiting on the YEL League to announce the new leagues and fixtures for this season. If all goes to plan we should be playing some new side visiting new locations, which will provide even more experience for the team.
We have two tournaments left to play, as long as the rain holds off and they can reschedule them later in the month. The tournaments we have played have both been on the edge of your seat and enjoyable at the same time, it also saw the team play some great football.
Training has continued throughout the closed season with the lads turning out in all weathers, which shows the dedication of the team or is it the dedication of the parents who have a drink in the bar? Not sure on that one.
On a final note let me wish the lads all the best for this season and with the continued support of the parents and grandparents we are sure to have another good season.
