Long Eaton got off to a winning start in their first game of the 2007/2008 season and did just that! Beating Netherfield Colts 5-1 at Grange Park.
After losing J Rout on Saturday with a broken arm, changes had to be made to the team. Straight from the kick-off Long Eaton were on the attack and with only 3 minutes gone, Palmer put a through ball for Oliver to run onto and slot neatly pass the keeper.
With 15 mintues on the clock Long Eaton made it 2-0 when Palmer shot across the keeper and into the net after a neat build up involving 5 players. The third came, when Ellicker scored pass the advancing keeper.
Half Time 3 - 0
Just as a repeat of the first half Long Eaton made it 4-0 within 2 mintues of the re-start, when Palmer claimed his second goal, when he latched onto a ball floated over the defence by Simnett. Netherfield seemed to find their feet, after that goal and scored a deserved goal with 15 minutes to go, after a mix up in the defence.
Manager Paul Davis made 2 substitutions and this paid off as both of them combined created the next goal, with Thorpe lobbing the keeper from 20 yards, to make the final score 5-1.
It was a good all round performance with captain Oliver receiving the Man of the Match Award.
Manager, Paul Davis said, "it was nice to get off to a winning start, and see some good performances, but there is still room for improvement".
